I love using both hands to stop or manipulate the yo-yo…and in spite of how long I’ve been doing tricks like this, I still rarely ever see them. I think that might be while I still keep going back to them…because in spite of the massive volume of tricks out there, this still feels like “mine”.

People often ask me “How do you make up tricks?” and my answer is usually “Start doing a trick you know, and intentionally screw it up. See what happens, and go from there.”

So many mounts have at least two string segments sitting there and you’re only supposed to hit one. Yet we all hit the double sometimes when we aren’t paying attention. So, I just hit the double, and nothing but the double, and kept going with it.

On a very long drive today (Atlanta to Cleveland) I found myself thinking about my buddy Ed, and how he’s just a classy guy who has a great style…to his play, his way of speaking, his approach to life…all of it. He’s just a classy dude, and I like his style.

So I made a quick little trick that’s exactly in his style…simple, smooth, and enjoyable.

Onwards To Mayhem #dragoncon

You can have a loop and drop it, and try to catch it. Or, if you’re a sadist like me, you can have a loop on the string with a reverse spin and actually toss it UP, and try and catch it….

This is a really great example of how I can take a trick I already know how to do and make it harder for myself without making it any more appealing to anyone.

I spent two hours today working on this trick, then I realized it looked almost exactly the same as an easier way of doing the trick.

Then I worked on it for another half an hour.

What the hell is wrong with me?
