“I’m pretty sure other people have done the same trick at some point. But there’s a lack of 3A tricks around here. :)” – Rafael

Steel Butterfly – Rafael Matsunaga
09/23/2013
“This is Steel Butterfly, a.k.a. the 5A/13A Iron Butterfly. Based of course on the legendary 3A Iron Butterfly, originally by Ryan Lai, Paul Yath, and Sky Kiyabu.
In Ryan’s words: ‘Pure accident with me and Paul Yath. We were messing around with random formations til Paul saw potential for buckets. I move my hand around and the string slips getting into butterfly. We couldn’t figure out how to recreate it so Sky took a look and figured the whole thing out again.’
Here’s Ryan performing it: youtube.com/watch?v=hk59bU_c3EI ” – Rafael

Double Trapeze Stall – Drew Tetz
11/30/12
“One thing I always liked about 3A is that there’s a whole subset of tricks that are just brutally difficult single moves. Continuing in that storied tradition, here’s a responsive toughie (with bonus dracula face.)” – Drew

Today was a great day at the Cleveland Yo-Yo Club. We hung out, made up ridiculous tricks, and I cooked up this epic piece of stupidity.

When “Triple A” yo-yo play hit the scene, the very first thing we did was try and just adapt all the tricks we could already do. I, of course, went right for the hard ones. The very first Triple A trick I created was Assisted Suicide. I’ll get it on film eventually. But this is one of the first wave of adaptations I made from regular string tricks to Triple A, and still one of my favorites.
