I can’t remember what contest it was…might have been the 2004 World Championships. But I made up this trick and showed it to my buddy Felix Avellana. He was suitably impressed.
About 20 minutes later I saw him get up on stage and land it, perfectly, in his freestyle routine. I immediately reflected on the full week of tweaking it took for me to hit the trick with any consistency. Then it was my turn to be suitably impressed.
So, in honor of Felix’s reminder that no matter how good you are there is always someone waiting to whoop you, I’ve named this trick after him.
Song is “Reclamation” by Fugazi. They appear courtesy of Dischord Records. This, for the record, is my absolute favorite Fugazi song of all time and is also on my favorite album of theirs, “Steady Diet of Nothing”. Pick up a copy from your local indie record store or iTunes.
If I could ever convince my buddy Ed to play counterweight, this is the sort of stuff he would do. Except that he would make an awful face while he did it, and somehow exude pure, radiant joy in the process.
Me, I just look like I’m tired and irritated. Which I am, but it has nothing to do with this trick. Ha.
Song is “The Reason” by Defiance, Ohio. They appear courtesy of No Idea Records.
Inspired by watching Mike Watt play bass. Yeah. I’m weird like that.
Song is “Beltsandedman” by Mike Watt.
Doesn’t matter what you’re doing…if you can find a way to spin around in the middle of it, then it becomes at least 73% cooler.
Song is “The Lively Lex Lopez” by Army of Ponch. They appear courtesy of No Idea Records.
Oh hey look, the snows melting again.
Song is “Assassin” by Floor. They appear courtesy of No Idea Records and the crushing weight of gravity.
I’m still in love with hubstack 5A, and I’m not even close to getting it where I want it. This is a new nunchuck combo I’ve recently gotten cleaned up and smoothed out.
Song is “Amargas Lembranças” by The Shame.

If I told you how many yo-yos I’ve destroyed trying to get this trick reliable, you’d probably be really, really upset.
Song is “2 Tuff 2 Try” by The Hot Rails.
This trick was inspired by watching my friend Jay doing some really interesting juggling body moves with a set of juggling balls that he absolutely hated. It was pretty amazing to watch someone create tricks that were completely equipment specific, purely as an exercise in creativity.
Song is “No Tomorrow” by Twelve Hour Turn.
