Lemon Drop

Some days I look at the clock and think “Oh man, I gotta film a trick today. I think I want to make a new one”. And then I get up and play until I’ve come up with something new. Then I go outside and film it.
That’s how I end up with weird and stupidly hard things like this trick. It took me 3 tries to hit it, then I got out the camera and it took me ten minutes.
Never underestimate how much harder something can be made by cold and wind.

Chase ‘n’ Squirrels

Today we buried one of our dogs, Chase. He was 11 years old, and his health has been declining for a while now. He hadn’t kept any food down for a couple of days, and yesterday he could barely walk…so we made the decision to bring him in to the vet today and have him put to sleep.
Last night he curled up in bed with us. In the middle of the night he got out of bed, laid down on the floor next to Jenni, and went back to sleep. He didn’t wake up.
He knew it was coming, and he knew it was time. We’ll miss him a lot, but we buried him today in the backyard so he could keep on giving those squirrels hell.
Miss you, handsome. I made this trick today, just for you. It’s damn hard to catch that loop at the end, but it’s worth chasing…just like those squirrels.

Rollover Suicide

Continuing yesterday’s theme of making things unnecessarily difficult just because I can, here’s a suicide to cross-armed Trapeze & His Brother, interrupted with a grind on the back of my throwing hand.
I love this trick. Feels good, and when you slow it down it looks amazing.

Love Tap

One of my favorite things about watching skating are those super brief little bits that happen so incredibly quickly, and yet you know if they’d been off or slower by just a hair they would have completely wiped out.
For a while, I got really in to building tricks around the most subtle of elements….a grind that lasts just a second or two. But it makes a HUGE difference in being able to hit a suicide when you try and throw a grind in the middle of it, however brief. It’s a nice reminder that it’s the little things that matter.
