The Quarter Trick
3/8/11
It’s a long-standing staple of professional yo-yo performers to do a trick where you knock a quarter off someone’s ear with a yo-yo. But when you consider that there are probably less than a dozen actual professional yo-yo performers making the rounds, that makes it a pretty scarce routine. So for today’s trick I thought I’d give you my entire Quarter Trick routine from my recent show opening for Jonathan Richman.
Enjoy. 🙂
Yo-yo used is the Loop 900 by YoYo Factory. Intro and outro music is a snippet of “Egyptian Reggae” by Jonathan Richman.

Yeah, So I’ve Been Watching Guy Wright Throw A Lot Lately But I Think I Liked His Earlier Tricks Better, Before They Got All Commercial.

Ha ha ha….hi, Guy! I made this little move up this morning, and it immediately make me think of you. Have a nice Thursday!

Mach 10
3/1/11
When “Triple A” yo-yo play hit the scene, the very first thing we did was try and just adapt all the tricks we could already do. I, of course, went right for the hard ones. The very first Triple A trick I created was Assisted Suicide. I’ll get it on film eventually. But this is one of the first wave of adaptations I made from regular string tricks to Triple A, and still one of my favorites.

Hype Man
2/27/11
This is a nifty little repeater that I cooked up the other night, and I got Drew Tetz to be the yo-yo equivalent of my hype man for the trick filming. Additional background hype by Darnell Hairston.

That first little loop thrown straight from a 1.5 mount is from my buddy Rodrigo Yokota, a.k.a. “Whip”. The rest is just me looking for ways to make things unnecessarily difficult.

Rollover Suicide
2/18/11
Continuing yesterday’s theme of making things unnecessarily difficult just because I can, here’s a suicide to cross-armed Trapeze & His Brother, interrupted with a grind on the back of my throwing hand.
I love this trick. Feels good, and when you slow it down it looks amazing.
