Last Year’s Boy – Steve Brown

“I have so many ideas for tricks that I tend to just throw them off in bits and pieces. Personally, trick components and single moves are usually more interested to me than full, long, completed sequences. A lot of newer players are actually really dismissive of what I create because it’s not a never-ending series of point-scoring moves that they can throw, fully assembled, into their freestyle. But I’ve always been way more interested in creating components that people with the right amount of skill and imagination can see the potential in, and then take and make them their own. If you look at one of my tricks and don’t see 6 ways that you can add it to something else and make it better….then you aren’t looking at my tricks.
Anyway, this trick is a rare ‘finished product’ sequence. The initial mount comes from a piece that I nicked off Spencer Berry years ago, and adapted into a repeater that I filmed for last year’s 365. Everything that follows is me looking for the least likely way to get from point A to point B, and if you can successfully figure out how to make the yo-yo return consistently for the interruption mount at the end I’ll be impressed…most of the trick I created in 10 minutes, but it took 4 days of work for me to figure out how to make that work after accidentally doing it once.” – Steve
