Flip Flop

I wish I was better at making tricks that are left/right symmetrical like this….they feel so nice!

Just a little something I’m twiddling with. I really like “placement” tricks. The first bit I got from Yuuki in ’97, the rest is mine.

This is one of those “nothing” tricks…as in, it’s something that the only purpose of the trick is to get out of it.
I’ve always liked catching on double strings…it’s something we all do by accident, but doing it on purpose feels so liberating. “Oh yeah, conveniently wide yo-yo? I’ll show YOU!”

I spent 3 hours working on something else that never panned out, and came up with this in about 2 minutes.
Creativity is a weird thing.

The version of this that I came up with first alternated from the left hand to right….so it’s an ambidextrous trick that moved way slower and looked a little awkward. So I cut out the hand-switching and it smoothed out pretty quickly. I think it’s a nice transition, and I’m also working on a version that wraps around your wrist, so I’ll probably tweak that out a little and film it tomorrow.

I started twiddling around with this as a sidestyle trick, but…don’t we have enough of those, already? Frontstyle!

An old friend of mine from high school posted some pics recently that reminded me of just how hilarious and awesome we all were when we were younger and didn’t have mortgages.

Roto-A-Matic
7/26/11
OK, so….do you remember those blow-molding toy machines they used to have at museums and amusement parks? You put in a buck worth of quarters and it actually blow-molded a small, shitty toy right in front of you and then dropped it into the chute, still warm and soft? And it was something like a brontosaurus or Abe Lincoln or some other similar subject…sculpted horribly but still amazing because it was made right before your eyes?
My friends at Rotofugi have one of those machines sitting in the corner of their store, and are working on restoring it so that they can make molds of modern sculpts by designer toy artists and give people a chance to relive their childhood with something a little more current and awesome.
I made up this weird Mach 5 variation because I was thinking about that machine and it’s name…Roto-A-Matic.
